Itβs only June 15 (itβs still evening in The Mile High City) and the summer solstice is still about a week away, but so far this season is shaping up to be one of legend status (and what I could only fantasize about during the last two years of back-and-forth lockdowns and restrictions).
It was during the Platinum Jubilee that I began to notice there was a big shift in the air. Maybe it was the balmy evenings in the garden and an endless supply of Aperol spritzes, but what really stood out to me was how happy people were to be together. As friends new and old bonded over the long weekend, one thing that continually resurfaced was how novel being together really felt. Itβs easy to forget that around this same time last year we were still locked into the Rule of Six and hugging another person was illegal.
While Lady Rona hasnβt disappeared, itβs feeling a lot like the normal we used to know before March 2020 and itβs easy to see that a lot of people are freaking out (myself included). Whether one is flocking to open destinations across the globe or happy to see a gig at their local pub weβre now experiencing this thing called βlifeβ again. After many conversations the past few weeks (on both sides of the pond), Brits and Yanks alike are feeling the feels.
While there were the big moments we had to contend with such as the fragility of life and death, furloughs and job losses, and breakups and shakeups, I see itβs the small things that are proving to be the real tearjerkers and remind us how much there is to be thankful for. Here are a few of my favourite highlights the last few weeks that have filled me with oodles of joy.
β€οΈ Exchanging smiles with a stranger
π€ Swaying to sweet beats at a live gig
π Meeting someone on a night out and having a cheeky snog
βοΈ Looking up at the destinations board at the airport and planning the next adventure
π¬ Finally getting to see Top Gun Maverick on the big screen and enjoying a margarita without the worry of a substantial meal
Iβd love to hear what youβre loving the most about this summer. Letβs chat on Twitter and Instagram! And, until next time, enjoy boatloads of good times and tan lines.
We're all crying!!! <3
